Connect TallyPrime to TallyNexa: setup and fixes
TallyNexa reads your books from TallyPrime through a small free program on the Windows computer where Tally runs. Setting it up takes a few minutes; this page also covers what to do when something does not show up.
Short answer: Download the free TallyNexa connector from tallynexa.ai/download on the Windows computer that runs TallyPrime and install it; no administrator password is needed. In TallyPrime, set Client/Server configuration once (Both, Enable ODBC Yes, Port 9000), open the companies you want, and choose the books to read. The first read goes month by month and takes minutes for most books; after that new entries arrive within minutes while Tally is open.
What you need
- A Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) computer with TallyPrime, where your companies open.
- A TallyNexa account. The 7-day free trial needs no card.
- An internet connection on that computer.
TallyNexa is built for TallyPrime. If you use Tally ERP 9, write to hello@tallynexa.ai before you start.
Step 1: install the connector
- On the Tally computer, sign in to TallyNexa and download the connector from tallynexa.ai/download. The setup is about 21 MB.
- Run it. It installs for your Windows user and needs no administrator password.
- A copy downloaded from your TallyNexa account links itself to your account.
- If you got the setup another way, link it with a key or pairing code made in TallyNexa under Settings > Connector > Link a computer.
The connector starts with Windows, updates itself and keeps running when you close its window.
Step 2: set TallyPrime once
- In TallyPrime, go to Exchange > Configure > Client/Server configuration. In some releases it is under F1 Help > Settings > Connectivity > Client/Server configuration.
- Set TallyPrime acts as to Both.
- Set Enable ODBC to Yes.
- Set Port to 9000, and accept.
To check, open http://localhost:9000 in a browser on that computer. A short reply that the TallyPrime server is running means Tally is ready.
Step 3: open your companies and choose the books
The connector reads only companies that are open in TallyPrime on that computer, and only the books you choose. Open the companies you want in TallyPrime, then choose them in the connector window or in TallyNexa. Books you do not choose are not read.
Step 4: the first sync
The first read goes month by month, so a large book is read in steps. A book of about 90,000 vouchers is read in minutes; small books are quicker.
After that, each new or changed entry reaches TallyNexa within minutes while Tally is open, and deleted entries are noticed too. When the computer is off, TallyNexa still shows the books as of the last sync.
If something goes wrong
The company is not found
- Open the company in TallyPrime on the same computer. A company that is closed, or open only on another computer, is not seen.
- Check that you chose the book in the connector or in TallyNexa.
- Open http://localhost:9000. If there is no reply, recheck Step 2 and restart TallyPrime.
- Still not found? Write to hello@tallynexa.ai with the company name as it appears in TallyPrime.
Tally says the port is in use
Another program, or another copy of Tally, is using port 9000. Close it and restart TallyPrime. If 9000 must stay with the other program, write to hello@tallynexa.ai.
New entries are not showing
Check that TallyPrime is open with the company loaded and that the computer is online. Entries made while the computer was offline come through once it is back online with Tally open.
You closed the connector window
That is fine. The connector keeps running in the background and starts again with Windows.
Windows asks about the firewall
The connector talks to Tally on the same computer and connects out to TallyNexa. You do not need to open any port to the internet.
What it reads and where it goes
The connector reads the books you choose and sends them to TallyNexa, encrypted in transit. Data is kept in India. It writes into Tally only when you approve an entry, such as a bill, and only on plans that include posting.
Once the books are in, open TallyNexa on any browser, on a phone, a tablet, a Mac or a Windows computer, or get the daily summary on WhatsApp.
TallyNexa is made by MarketPing, Thane, and is not affiliated with Tally Solutions.
